Today we have had in our workshop a Hoover 8kg washing machine that was displaying E16 error code in the digital display, these are the steps we took to repairing this fault.
This code indicates that there’s a problem with the water heater or the electrical connectors to the heater . In most cases, this can be easily fixed by checking the wiring and making sure that all connections are secure.
If all the connections are good then this could mean the heater is faulty, this can be checked for continuity with a multi meter, on some occasions the insulation on the heater could have broken and this could cause the washing machine to trip your circuit.
We then removed the electrical connections to the heater
Once we have the connections off we can now undo the nut holding the heater in place, after we have loosened this we now give the nut and screw a gentle tap to release the bracket and rubber seal that is inside the outer tub, now we can prise the heater out.
Replacement of the new heater is a reversal of the removal, howether there is a small bracket or clip inside the tub that the heater needs to be pushed into to secure it and prevent it flapping around during a wash, this can be easily seen by shining a torch down the hole, we also put a little washing up liquid on the new heaters rubber seal to help it slide in easier.
Once it was all installed we connected it back up to the water supply and waste outlet and did a water test to make sure there was no leaks from the heater this is important to do.
Conclusion.
This is a really easy repair to do and failed heaters on these Hoover washing machines can give other error codes and faults. All work should be carried out by a suitably qualified person with the machine disconnected from the mains supply.
