Smeg began as an enamelling and metalworking company before transitioning into the production of domestic appliances in the 1950s.

Its first major innovation came in 1956 with the “Elisabeth” gas cooker, which introduced features like automatic ignition and a safety valve. Over the decades, Smeg expanded its portfolio to include washing machines, dishwashers (such as the Niagara, the first 14-place setting dishwasher), and built-in kitchen appliances.

Today, Smeg operates six production plants in Italy and China, has subsidiaries in 16 countries, and has an extensive global sales network.
